Fun Faces in Button form

Lately I seem to have earned the name 'the button lady' especially because I am teaching a beaded button class tomorrow. I admit to rather liking the title and I could certainly be called worse things!

Well here is another completed beaded button that I tantalised you with on the previous blog:
I am very pleased with it, and it is a great project for when you only have 5 or 6 beads left of a particular colour. I love items that dig into my bead soup!!! I may add it to a fabric body to make a doll, or simply give it pride of place on a simple black bag so it gets some use. I will have to think on it.

Well I have to disappear now to pack up my kit for my class tomorrow.

Long time no see....

I have been a very absent blogger over last few weeks - what with a dose of flu, followed by a bad back and then the start of the next module for my MSc in E-learning! No excuse but there has been very little work undertaken in that time so nothing much to blog!
However a fellow blogger has been nagging me about the lack of blog (yes you Angela!) and as I will be seeing her tomorrow I thought I had better get some done :)

Hematite necklace
I went to the wedding of a friend of mine early in October and it was a black tie do so I was wearing a rather fetching black frock. I had the common problem of no matching jewellery - much of my stuff is brightly coloured so didn't go with the 'black and white' theme. So like any enterprising beader I settled down with my bead stash to see what I could do.
I had a lovely big hematite cabochon and some hematite beads of mixed shapes and sizes which perfectly fit the bill. So here is the result of an evenings beading the night before the wedding!

Here is the detail - I added a little asymmetrical fringe to add drama to such a lovely stone:

It worked very well and I had quite a few nice comments from people. I have worn it on quite a few occasions since - including when I am out on site wearing a suit and it looks great.

Beaded button
Another item that I have started is an addition to my beaded buttons collection for the course I am teaching at Art & Stitch next weekend. This is still underway but you get the idea...

I wanted to do something a little different from the 'randoms' and the definite patterned beads that I have done so far, as well as move away from the duel colourways that I have used to date. This one uses a mix of colours with no pretence at coordination - simply a 'joy' of colours! It is still a work in progress, and getting the eyes level will be a challenge, but I always love trying something new!

Well tomorrow I am attending a class at Art & Stitch with the talented Gina as tutor, so I will probably come back immensely inspired and shut myself away for days! I can't wait!
